About

I believe a cabin is a state of mind, a place where you and the people you love feel at home, a place where memories and traditions are established and grow for generations.

I opened Whispering Pines “Thing for the Cabin” in 1988 in the little Hudson River town of Piermont, NY close to where I lived. I was a young mom with two little boys and looking for a way to express myself creatively. I had grown up in the Midwest and spent my summers at our family cabin on a lake. As I started raising my own family, I realized how important the cabin was or rather a cabin ‘state of mind” was to me….so that was the inspiration.

Whispering Pines is a way to recreate the wonderful feeling you get as you open the door to the cabin each spring; wool blankets, buffalo plaid shirts, fishing creels, beaded jewelry, moccasins, fishing jackets, incense burners, twig pencils, books, calendars, lake maps, cabin key holders, fly swatters…authentic, quirky and often whimsical, all “things for the cabin.”

This blog gives me a chance to share with you the things that inspire me and help keep me in a cabin state of mind….

Enjoy.

Hi ,
I am Mary Macgregor’s sistor Janet and I opened a vintage Southern Cider / Vintage Southern foods shop in a place called Oxford, FL. We just opened in Feb.
Mary came to see the store last Sun and it reminded me to check out your wonderful Whispering Pines which I have always thought was great!
Very coincidentally my daughter is being married in Cazenovia,NY in August in a rustic kind of outdoor place. Mary and I will definitely be checking the site for some fun ideas.
Please check my site if you get a chance as we have some nice consumable!
Cheers,
Jan
